Australia news LIVE: Labor sanctions neo-Nazi network; Canada, Mexico slap return sanctions on US

An online white supremacist network will be sanctioned in an unprecedented move by the federal government to combat antisemitism.
Terrorgram, a network that promotes white supremacy and racially-motivated violence, is the first entirely online group to be slapped with counter-terrorism financing sanctions.
The move makes it a criminal offence to use the network with penalties including up to 10 years in prison and heavy fines, Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced overnight.

In a statement, Wong said the sanctions were part of the government’s “ongoing work to combat antisemitism and keep Australians safe”.
“This demonstrates the Albanese Government’s commitment to disrupting the activities of terrorists and violent extremists and preventing them from recruiting and radicalising people online,” the statement read.
“There is no place in Australia for antisemitism, hatred or violence.”
Wong also confirmed the re-listing of sanctions for four other groups that “[promote national and racist violent extremist ideologies”, as well as sanctions on Hezbollah’s new Secretary General Naim Qassem.
