Husband, wife drown while saving daughter at Great Southern beach
A husband and wife have died while trying to save their young daughter at a beach in Western Australia’s Great Southern.
Emergency services were called to the Conspicuous Cliff beach, about 17 kilometres from Walpole, at 2.40pm on Saturday, with reports that three people were in distress in the water and caught in a rip.
By the time police arrived they had been pulled from the water and officers began CPR, but 40-year-old Sabrina Ahmed and Dr Mohammad Shahidul Hasan Swapan, 44, could not be revived.
Another man, aged 42, who jumped in to save his friends was revived and taken to hospital by St John Ambulance.
The family was visiting the region from Perth, with the couple’s daughters returning on Sunday where it was hoped they would continue to live with their uncle.
