Sydney train delays LIVE updates: Mass cancellations across network for commuters as RTBU action resumes

One of the main reasons trains are moving so slowly this morning is because train crews are deliberately travelling much slower on faster sections of the rail network.
Rail, Tram and Bus Union state secretary Toby Warnes was asked on ABC Sydney radio this morning why the union chose to reduce speeds by 23km/h on sections of track where trains can usually travel more than 80km/h.

He said reducing speeds on slower sections of track would have “a catastrophic impact on the network”.
“For example, you’ve got sections of tracks that are much, much slower, and if you take 23 kilometres off that, you’d have trained barely moving,” he told Craig Reucassel.
“We always try and do things that ensure that people can still get from A to B, but have at least some impact to open the government’s eyes up.”
